{"id":242,"date":"2008-06-28T22:23:43","date_gmt":"2008-06-29T06:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mike.peay.us\/blog\/?p=242"},"modified":"2008-06-29T12:26:50","modified_gmt":"2008-06-29T20:26:50","slug":"a-google-maps-for-booklovers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mike.peay.us\/blog\/archives\/242","title":{"rendered":"A Google maps for booklovers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I ran across an interesting website the other day which was mentioned in a <a href=\"http:\/\/slashdotreview.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">podcast I listen to<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/zoomii.com\" target=\"_blank\">Zoomii.com<\/a> uses a web interface similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">Google Maps<\/a> but instead of panning streets, they let you browse stacks of books. Each book is represented in its relative size on a bookshelf and organized by category. Clicking on a book provides full information and provides an option to add it to your Amazon shopping cart or wishlist.<\/p>\n<p>What\u00a0intrigued\u00a0me most about this site, other than an original interface which provides a really decent analog to walking through a bookstore, is the fact they are using Amazon&#8217;s affiliate program to make money and as a result there&#8217;s no advertising or overt efforts to &#8220;monetize the visit.&#8221; The price they present is the same as if you navigated to the same book using Amazon&#8217;s &#8220;up-sell\u00a0at every turn&#8221; interface.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m always pleased when I see a truly unique idea.
